Tripura State RANK and BOLT Awards Function

This is what Meenakshi Chatterjee the 2007-2008 State Award winning teacher had to say:

"Hon'ble His Excellency Sir, Madam First Lady, Mr. Arunodoy Saha, Mr. S. Mahadevan, Mrs. Paramita Livingstone, respective dignitaries, officials of Air India and Dainik Sambad, members of teachers and students fraternity, esteemed guests and my friends.

"Meenakshi Chatterjee stands before you as the State BOLT Winner and is humbled to place before you experiences and learning with the RANK and BOLT Awards.

"I beging with expressing my gratitude and thanks to Air india and Dainik Sambad for recognising the importance of education in the upliftment and development of a country and therefore providing for us a platform to rub shoulders and share experiences with the very best in our fraternity both in India and abroad.

"As a first step our State selection in itself, from preparation to the ultimate selection gave me the opportunity to realise the diversity in our education system and thought procedure.

"This learning and sharing continued throughout our excursion to Singapore and the subsequent National selections where we got to share our views with people like shobhaa De and Priya Dutt who are an institution on to themselves.

"At Singapore I wonder how could such a small countrybe at such an enviable position in the world? I searched for an answer deparately and after going through Singapore's history and meeting the people realised that awareness through education was the answer to my question. Whether it was getting rid of corruption or making citizens environmentally aware or gaining prosperity in their country, with next no natural resources it was achieved through education.

"Air India could not have chosen a more suitable destination for us than Singapore.

"Besides this, in Singapore I learnt how to preserve resources and how to recycle and reuse them.

"I also experienced their commitment towards environment, always valuing their meagre resources and conserving them.

"I realised the value of discipline by watching the law abiding citizens of Singapore and realised that education system must give the citizens the ability to differentiate between right and wrong, good and evil.

"I also learnt that it is the critical responsibility of a society to teach its citizens the ability to make the right choices in life through formal and informal education.

"Singapore is a beautiful country with the peole extremely well educated and courteous. they taught me three lessons on the importance of education they are:

Educated peole are east to lead but hard to enslave.

Education will produce a good citizen, who can not only make a good living but also a good life.

And, churning out responsible citizens is the true purpose of life.

"RANK and BOLT experience has also given me friends for a life time. Besides sharing our experiences while on tour we today share our thoughts regularly on how best we can contribute towards betterment of our students and the society.

"These experiences have helped me to develop a mission and the mission is to encourage more students and teachers to take up this RNK and BOLT challenge so that their vision also becomes like mine and together we take our country to new heights.

"I once again thank Dainik Sambad and Air India and am hopeful that people coming through this system like me and would contribute positively towards building educated and aware citizenbs in our wonderful State Tripura.

"Like somebody said: Every Nation writes its own autobiography through actions or inactions of its teachers.

"Thank You!"
